NEW PUPPY CARE

How to Make Your New Puppy Comfortable

Sleeping Dogs

Congratulations on your new family member! Our team has put together a few items that you’ll want to take care of to make sure your new pet is happy and comfortable in this new place.

Tip #1
Make sure you order your new pet food!

Tip #2
Give them space. Let your new pet have some time to get comfortable in their new home without children or other pets overpowering the moment. They need to feel secure and able to explore without the pressures of socialization being their first hurdle.

Tip #3
Have a safe space. Make sure that your new pet has a place to safely escape from other pets and children as needed. They will get used to your family, but they need to feel as though they can escape to a safe, comfortable space when needed.

Tip #4
Training. Train your pet to do certain things like coming to you with healthy treats or toys. Also, train your pet that a kennel or carrier is meant to be a comfortable and good place to go. Try to avoid using kennels as a means of punishment. If you use the kennel consistently early on, they will learn to be okay if you need to safely lock them in it at night, while you are away, or while guests are over. Most pets are ‘denning’ animals, and the use of a cage is actually considered to be a safe place to retreat to instead of a punishment. Utilizing kennels and carriers by putting blankets over them, leaving a toy and a large, non-hazardous treat to munch on can make the kennel an enjoyable place to be.

Tip #5
Grooming and bathing. Get your pet used to baths often. For some breeds it can seem weird to bathe them, but by bathing them while they are young and doing it often, bath fine with be a part of their routine instead of a constant struggle. Use proper soaps and water temperature and it will be a breeze as they age. Make sure you brush or comb them as necessary as well. They will associate this as a soothing pastime instead of a struggle. If you want to flip their nails consistently in the future to avoid scratches on yourself or children start now as well!
Tip #6
Vet appointments. Schedule an appointment with your preferred veterinarian to get their boosters and rabies vaccinations done. Proper and consistent vet appointments are crucial to ensuring your pet is and stays healthy. Annual visits are a must!
Tip #7
Ask questions. If you have a particular question about your specific breed or let, please let us know and we will point you in the right direction.

Thanks for reading! We hope this helped and gives you some good starting tips to make sure your pet has a happy and comfortable transition into their new life with you!
